Topic: Innovation during the COVID Delta Surge 2021

David Shaw will share how the team at Nor-Lea Hospital District leveraged the Baldrige Framework to develop innovative responses to the COVID Delta Surge in 2021.  Nor-Lea Hospital District’s rapid response greatly reduced the length and lethal impact of the surge on local residents.

David Shaw is the CEO/Administrator of Nor-Lea Hospital District, a Critical Access Hospital for 23 years.  During his tenure, Nor-Lea Hospital District has seen a rapid growth in the scope of services and the size of the facility.  In 1999 Nor-Lea Hospital District employed 5 providers and 89 staff members.  Today Nor-Lea Hospital District employs 66 providers and over 550 staff members.  The hospital is one of the largest Critical Access Hospitals in the country with over 180,000 outpatient visits and nearly 110,000 clinic visits.  Nor-Lea Hospital District has been on a performance excellence journey for over a decade.  In 2019 Nor-Lea Hospital District won New Mexico’s highest Performance Excellence Award “Zia”.  Later that same year, Nor-Lea Hospital District became the first Critical Access Hospital to earn a site visit by Baldrige National Quality Award Program.
