ORANGE, Calif. (Dec. 18, 2014) – The California Council for Excellence (CCE) today announced two recipients of the 2014 California Awards for Performance Excellence (CAPE)™ Eureka Award, the highest recognition for performance excellence in the state.

The 2014 Eureka Award recipients – listed by their award level – are:

VA Palo Alto Health Care System (health care)

Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital & Family of Services (health care)

Alan Ichikawa, Chair of CAPE, said, “It is my pleasure to congratulate these Eureka recipients for successfully applying the national Baldrige Criteria to improve their organizations, as well as the quality of products and services for their customers.”

Administered by CCE, the CAPE program is committed to helping California-based organizations from all sectors continuously improve through the application of the Baldrige Criteria and framework.

Teams comprised of the 2014 CAPE Board of Examiners spent more than three months, including a weeklong site visit, rigorously assessing these Eureka recipients’ 50-page applications, which address the seven categories of the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence: Leadership; Strategic Planning; Customer Focus; Measurement, Analysis, and Knowledge Management; Workforce Focus; Operations Focus; and Results. The evaluation of Eureka applications is overseen by the CAPE Board of Judges to ensure the integrity of the process and to recommend recognition levels to CCE’s Board of Directors for ratification.

CCE will formally recognize the CAPE Eureka recipients at its 21st Annual Best Practices and Awards Ceremony, Celebrating Excellence 2015, in Orange County, Calif., this Spring.

Founded in 1992, the California Council for Excellence is a nonprofit educational foundation dedicated to helping California-based organizations achieve world-class results through the principles of the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence. CCE also administers the California Team Excellence Awards (CTEA) program, which recognizes process management, innovation and problem-solving skills through organized work teams.
